Legion Feral Druid Hidden Artifact Appearance

Each artifact weapon has a hidden appearance associated with it. This post will cover how to obtain the Feral Druid hidden appearance.

I would like to acknowledge the comment contributors at WoW Head for this in depth detail which greatly helped me. I am also not the original author of the macros and scripts in this post. Credit to the authors in the comments at WoW Head.

What is the Feral Druid hidden artifact appearance?
Feral Druids get what is called Feather of the Moonspirit. It is a bird like appearance complete with feathers and a beak for your Cat Form. Pretty much identical to the cat mobs in Azsuna.

How do I get this appearance?
Getting this appearance isn’t difficult compared to some of the other specs, but a little bit of RNG is involved.

Step 1 – Reach at least Artifact Knowledge rank 4.
Everyone should be well past rank 4 by now. Earlier this week I achieved Artifact Knowledge (AK) rank 25. Once you are at this knowledge rank, you will be eligible to hear screeches.

Step 2 – Screeches in the Dreamway
Once you reach AK rank 4, you have a chance to get a special emote when you are in the Emerald Dreamway, the portal area you teleport to when you use the spell Dreamwalk. The emote appears in your chat box in the same orange colour that other emotes appear as. There are three possible emotes:

  • You hear a strange feral screech coming from the Hinterlands portal.
  • You hear a strange feral screech coming from the Duskwood portal.
  • You hear a strange feral screech coming from the Feralas portal.
Screech emote for the Hinterlands. The other screeches will be identical except for the location, Duskwood or Feralas.

Seems simple right? This is where the RNG comes in. Firstly to even get a screech, an internal roll decides once per day if you will receive the emote. It driggers between your entry spawn point, and the bridge leading into the Dreamgrove. You can check this by running a script. If you are eligible, the output of the script will read ‘true’. Copy and paste this script into your chat box and press enter.

/dump IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44326)

Step 3 – Finding the stone
Go through the portal that corresponds to the screech emote that you received. Once through the portal you will need to look around the portal entrance for a grey owlcat stone, and touch it. The stone has many spawn points, but is always located around the portal area. I recommend downloading a coordinate addon like TomTom and using the coordinates in the comments on WoW Head.

The following scripts will tell you which stone is active and if it has been touched.

/dump IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44327) (Feralas owlcat stone active)
/dump IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44328) (Hinterlands owlcat stone active)
/dump IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44329) (Duskwood owlcat stone active)
/dump IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44330) (Duskwood owlcat stone touched)
/dump IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44331) (Feralas owlcat stone touched)
/dump IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44332) (Hinterlands owlcat stone touched)

After you click on the stone you will receive a temporary buff called Mark of the Moonspirit. You will also see another emote “You hear something dart away behind you… and then just silence.”. You will need to complete this for all three portal screeches.

Hinterlands stone

This is where I found the stone in the Hinterlands. When you mouse over it the tool tip is ‘Mark of the Moonspirit’.

Duskwood stone

Where I found the Duskwood stone. You can see the Duskwood emote screech in this screenshot.

Feralas stone

And the Feralas stone.

Step 4 – Sit before the Spirit
Once all three stones have been touched, return to the Emerald Dreamway. You will find a moonspirit NPC named Ela’lothen <The Moonspirit> in the middle of the zone. Shift into Cat Form (you MUST be in Cat Form), target the NPC and /sit before it, and the Feather of the Moonspirit will appear in your inventory.

That’s all folks….?
If you think you can retire now that you’ve unlocked the hidden artifact appearance, then think again. This appearance has 3 other colour variants which can be unlocked by completing dungeons, world quests, and honorable kills will using the appearance.

There is a script macro you can run to track your progress. Paste this into your chat box and press enter, it make it into a macro and click the macro for the same affect.

/run local n=0 for i=1,11 do local _,_,_,a,b = GetAchievementCriteriaInfo(11152,i) n=n+aend local _,_,_,c, d = GetAchievementCriteriaInfo(11153,1) local _,_,_,e, f = GetAchievementCriteriaInfo(11154,1)  print (n..”/100 Dg “..c..”/200 WQ “..e..”/1000 HK”)

Script output

You can see the macro window where I’ve made the script into a macro and put on my bars so I can track my progress. From this script output in the chat box, you can see that I have completed 23/100 dungeons (Dg), 200/200 world quests (WQ), and 683 honourable kills (HK).

Final Thoughts
I remember noticing the emotes fairly early on into the expansion and thought it would be some cool Easter egg event, but I didn’t know it would be a hidden artifact appearance. At the time I wasn’t well informed about he artifact weapon and just sort of forgot about it. Then one day I decided that I was going to investigate.

I think this hidden appearance is more interesting than one that is just a drop from a mob or boss e.g. the Guardian hidden artifact form. But I think I was also quietly hoping for something similar to Warlock green fire or the Celestial Blessing quest in Mists of Pandaria. Either way I’m happy with the increases levels of customisation for Druid forms that have been coming over the past few years, from Frandral’s Flame Scythe, Incarnation through to current artifact weapon appearances.

Have you unlocked the hidden appearance yet? Are you happy with the how the appearance is acquired or were you expecting something different? Let me know what you think. 1. I loved the hidden appearance as soon as it was datamined and was lucky enough to get it quite soon after hitting AK4 (well and after they hotfixed it to actually be obtainable). I do wish there was a bit more variation between the dungeon/honour kills colours though- I get that they just mimic all the wild owlcats but they’re still just a bit too similar for me.

    • Hi and thanks for your comment.

I’m still unsure if I like it or not. I’m used to it now but at first I was put off by it. The icy sabre tooth form looks really cool so I might try working towards that next. Cheers.
