Cat Naps are new content I will be adding to my blog. They will be shorter posts about very specific things. Cat Naps wont be posted to a schedule like regular blogs but rather when they are relevant and when I have the time.
There was a good summary on MMO Champion of some discussion between the Feral Druid Community and the developers recently. The main talking point was around the lack of value haste currently has and how that interacts with class design, specifically bleeds vs direct damage.
Where do I stand?
I tend to agree with the intent of the developers, in that I would like to see better balance between direct damage and bleeds. When we become to focused in one particular area not only does it highlight our strengths, it also highlights our weaknesses e.g. too much bleed focus penalizes us switching targets. However this hasn’t been seen in game much if at all. All through MOP Swipe and Ferocious Bite were hit like a wet noodle. The Rune of Re-origination pushed the spec further down the bleed focused path.
I agree with the design that haste should not affect the speed that bleed tick at. That would just push us further down the bleed path rather than balancing bleeds vs direct damage. This quote sums it up perfectly:
‘Rake currently does ~500k, and Shred does ~130k. Again, no wonder Haste sucks, when all it gives you is more of those ~130k Shreds, not more Rakes.’
I’m hoping in Legion we can see this balance between bleeds and direct damage become a reality.
The Hallow’s End even it is currently on running from the 19th October through to the 2nd of November. With this years event comes 4 new daily quests available from you garrison, which needs to be fully upgraded. The quest giver is located near your fountain for Alliance players.
Alliance quest givers are at the fountain in a level 3 garrison.
Soul Capacitor is a trinket that drops from Socrethar in Hellfire Citadel. This is a unique trinket because of the way it works. When it procs, you are actually doing no damage because it is being temporarily ‘stored’ for the duration of the proc. When it ends, your built up damage comes out of storage and is dealt in one massive hit with a multiplier. It can be great for high burst, singlet target and AOE damage.

However there are certain situations where you might not want it to go off (the proc to finish) e.g. running away from the boss due to an ability. Obviously while you are away from the boss you are not doing any damage – thus not putting any damage into ‘storage’, and if the proc ends when no enemies are around you will deal no damage. The best way to get around this is to use a /cancelaura macro. Activating this macro cancels the proc (called Spirit Shift) from the trinket causing it to deal how ever much damage was stored at the time. This will help you get the most out of your trinket.

Since I’ve earned my legendary ring, I’ve been having some threat issues, particularly on the pull with this trinket. Pre pot + Berserk & Incarnation + legendary ring + heroism, and then a trinket proc on top often leaves me dead from a boss one shot. Being able to cancel the proc early helps reduce some of these threat issues.
For some further reading about this trinket I’ll direct you to an article written by zoopercat from Ask Mr. Robot at Blizzard Watch. There is also a discussion threat for this trinket over at the Fluid Druid.
Just a quick update on my current keybinds as I’ve made some adjustments my last post on keybinds. I used to click my potions but have now moved them to ‘t’, where Typhoon used to be. Typhoon has been moved to my mouse (Ctrl + Mousewheel down). Healing Touch is still on ‘6’ but is also bound to Alt + ‘q’, which I what I use nearly 100% of the time.
Below is my current adjusted keyindings with no modifiers.
The reasons for the changes were that I found myself using my potions more than Typhoon, but not so often that I needed a good keybind close to my hand. I also used to have Typhoon bound to my mouse back in Mists of Pandaria so it wasn’t a big learning curve to get used to it. Healing Touch was proving too cumbersome to use when ‘5’ was it’s only binding. I still have it bound to my mouse also for mouse over healing with unit frames, but sometimes I just need to use it for my Bloodtalons proc. I’ve become used to hitting ‘q’ with Ferocious Bite and put it there with my main modifier, Alt, and haven’t looked back.
Final Boss are doing another episode on Feral Druids. This time Stenhaldi is back along with Pawkets. I’ve come up with a few questions which I’ve sent in, but I’m not sure if they’ll make it on the show. We’ll have to watch and see. They steam their show live at http://www.twitch.tv/FinalBossTV. The show starts at 6am Australian Time or 4pm EST (American time). If you miss the show live you can see it on the Final Boss YouTube Channel or via podcast.
1. What can be done to address Feral’s weak AOE damage? Does the buff to Thrash help at all?
2. Does the buff to Thrash make it worth using in the single target rotation?
3. Has Feral’s bad AOE affected the specs representation in mythic content? I see a lot of hyperbolic comments of people being “forced” to play a different class or switch to boomkin or being sat entirely. Do these claims have any merit?
4. Is Savage Roar set too high at 40%? How does this affect the spec with regards to:
How punishing is it for new players and does it make the skill cap too high? Or is that the design intent of the spec? Seems counter intuitive with the Glyph of Savagery.
Scaling – We get incremental buffs each patch, could something else be done?
5. Any thoughts on reworking Druid Talents?
We have two CC tiers with little impact on game play, some options have extremely rare niche uses.
More diversity of the level 90 talents, with Dream of Cenarius being the only real option.
6. Thoughts on Claws of Shivallah? Has it been successful? Does it get much use by PVPers or new players? It’s told to be avoided in all PVE guides. Should it be reworked or removed?
7. Haste historically has been a bad stat for Ferals. Any ideas on how to address this moving forward?
